Best College Admissions Consultants was created by a small editorial team with backgrounds in higher education research, educational journalism, and college counseling.
We started this project because we saw a gap: families spending thousands of dollars on admissions consulting had no structured, independent way to compare firms before committing. Review sites existed for restaurants and hotels, but nothing equivalent existed for an industry where a single engagement can cost more than a semester of tuition. We built Best College Admissions Consultants to fill that gap with honest, sourced evaluations that families can use alongside their own research.
Rankings are updated annually. Each firm is scored across six dimensions.

Range of offerings beyond basic essay editing. Availability of specialized programs (test prep, research mentorship, financial aid, graduate admissions).
Whether pricing is published or requires a sales call. How clearly package structures and inclusions are defined.
Whether the firm publishes acceptance metrics. Whether outcomes have been independently audited. How client results compare to national averages.
Ratings on independent platforms (Trustpilot, BBB, Google Reviews). Recognition by industry publications and media outlets.
Geographic and virtual availability. Grade levels and admissions types covered (undergraduate, transfer, graduate, international).
